'Significant' jobs announcement set for Mulberry

— Gov. Mike Beebe is scheduled to help announce a new investment in Mulberry that will create jobs.

Officials with the Arkansas Economic Development Commission didn't release specifics on what they called a "significant" announcement, but a Mulberry city councilman said she believed a new frozen food manufacturer would add more than 50 positions in the Crawford County city.

Betty Bowlin said Mayor Gary Baxter told the council about those new jobs at its last meeting, though he didn't specify the company.

"Any kind of jobs would be great, I'm telling you," Bowlin said. " We need some tax."

Baxter did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Further details on the investment weren't immediately known. Beebe is slated to join local officials and company leaders at a news conference Tuesday morning at the Crawford County Fair Building in Mulberry.
